The Shelby and Southern Railroad has been operating at the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum in Calera, Alabama for the past 10 years. Prior to that, it operated at the Birmingham Zoo for 30 years as the "Magic City Express." The engine and tender were completely restored in 2004 at Tweetsie Railroad, and the passenger cars were refurbished and painted in 2004 at the railroad museum. The train stopped operating at the museum in 2012 due to a lack of funding for track maintenance and currently resides in the engine house at the museum. This train has been a staple of entertainment for children and adults alike in the Birmingham metro area for the past 40 years, and deserves a home where it will be cared for and operated once again. Outside of boiler testing, inspection, and routine maintenance, this train is ready to operate, and can generate a substantial profit when there is a crowd waiting to ride. This sale includes all the spare parts and tools needed to operate the train.
